The Ankeny Brief
Ankeny is a serious youth-sports town, and a lot of that runs through two big facilities: a sprawling outdoor field complex and a large indoor fieldhouse, both in the Prairie Trail area. Here's what each has, what sports they host, and how to find games, leagues, or a tournament.
Ankeny's youth-sports hubs are the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex (a large outdoor complex with baseball, softball, soccer, and football fields at 1510 NW Ash Drive) and the indoor Prairie Trail FieldHouse (basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and tennis courts). Between them they host leagues, camps, and tournaments year-round.
The city's big outdoor complex, at 1510 NW Ash Drive, is built for tournaments and league play. It packs in a lot of fields:
All the fields are natural grass. The complex hosts youth camps, clinics, leagues, and weekend tournaments in the warmer months.
For indoor and off-season play, the Prairie Trail FieldHouse (with its West Gym) offers a large flexible court setup, roughly:
Up to around 24,000 square feet of gym space handles practices, court rentals, tournaments, and leagues, so play doesn't stop when the weather turns. For adult pickleball options too, see our Ankeny pickleball guide.
Between the two complexes, Ankeny hosts youth baseball, softball, soccer, football, basketball, and volleyball, plus camps and clinics through the year. City Parks & Recreation and local sports organizations run most of the leagues and tournaments; the City of Ankeny's Parks & Recreation office (515-963-3577) is the starting point for field rentals and tournament info.
