The Ankeny Brief
The city's main outdoor complex sits at 1510 NW Ash Drive, on 90 acres of grass. Every field is natural grass, so weather matters. Sixteen fields have lights: baseball 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11; softball 41 through 46; and soccer 33 through 36. The site also has 16 tennis courts, four concession stands with restrooms, parking for 1,200 cars, two fishing ponds, walking trails and play equipment for the younger siblings.
From I-35, go west on First Street, then north on Ash Drive; the complex is on your left, with lots entered from the east and north. Tournament parents should know the rules: parking lots only, no RVs or campers during events or overnight, no tobacco, and pets on a leash and off the fields and spectator areas. A $25,000 Prairie Meadows grant also went toward new softball batting cages, which the city said would be open to the public outside league and tournament play.

Tournaments can also owe per-game team fees to Ankeny Little League, Iowa Rush Soccer or Ankeny Girls Softball, as listed on the schedule. Those three are the groups to look up for youth signups, since the city doesn't run every league on these fields. Check the kids guide for the rest of what's on offer.
Between the Fieldhouse and the West Gym, it claims 8 basketball, 10 volleyball, 12 pickleball and 4 tennis courts, with up to 24,000 square feet of gym space, plus futsal. It's at 2250 SW Vintage Parkway on the south side, part of the Prairie Trail Sports Complex, and it hosts practices, court rentals, tournaments, leagues and camps. Book through prairietrailsc.com or email [email protected], since it runs its own rentals. We didn't find posted rates or membership terms, so ask before you drive over.
Hawkeye Park has three ballfields and six tennis courts; the city listed those courts as closed for reconstruction through September, so check they're back. Rally's pickleball courts are open dawn to 10:30 p.m., first-come except courts 1 to 4, which you can reserve at $10 an hour. Our pickleball guide has more. The city's FY 2027 fee schedule lists youth rentals at $60 an hour game ready or $40 practice, and adult rentals at $80 or $60. Tournament rates are per field.
