Ankeny went all-in on pickleball: the Rally Complex opened a dedicated 12-court outdoor facility - lighted, with a shelter and restrooms - and there are four more courts at Greentree Park. Both are free to walk up and play. Here's where they are, the hours, and how the optional reservations work.

Play at the Rally Complex, 725 SW Prairie Trail Pkwy - 12 lighted courts, shelter, restrooms, open dawn-10:30 p.m., free first-come. Or Greentree Park, 1914 NW Hickory Ln - 4 free courts. At the Rally Complex you can optionally reserve courts 1-4 up to 7 days out; everything else is free open play.

At 725 SW Prairie Trail Parkway, the Rally Complex is Ankeny's dedicated pickleball hub: 12 lighted outdoor courts plus a shelter and restrooms. It's free and first-come, first-served, open daily from dawn to 10:30 p.m. unless courts are reserved or there's a scheduled event. The lights mean you can keep playing well after sunset.

You never have to reserve - most people just show up and play. But if you want a guaranteed slot, courts 1-4 can be booked for a fee up to seven days in advance, in one-hour increments, capped at two hours per day per person. The other eight courts stay open for free walk-up play.

The neighborhood option: Greentree Park

If the Rally Complex is packed or you're on the north side, Greentree Park (1914 NW Hickory Ln) has 4 free outdoor courts - a lower-key spot for a casual game.
