In 1985, two toolmakers from a plastic-injection-molding shop in nearby Ames rented a garage and, working nights and weekends, designed and built a mold to produce a very small plastic gear. Because the machines of the era couldn't mold parts much smaller than a pencil eraser, they invented their own micro-molding press to run it, and the first Micro-Mold® platform was born.
That garage operation became Accumold, based in Ankeny. Roger Hargens, one of the original entrepreneurs, leads the company as CEO and President.
